Pink ombre nails

I am in love with all the ombre going on right now. This look is something I’ve done a couple times now. It’s pretty and still subtle enough to be an everyday look.

Polishes (left to right): Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Mauve It, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Pink Slip, and Nicole by OPI in Make A Comet-ment.

– Apply one coat of Mauve it.
– Apply a thin coat of Pink Slip on 3/4 of the nail. Does not need to be a perfectly straight line! The glitter at the end will cover any imperfections.
– Apply a thin coat of Pink Slip on 1/2 the nail.
– Apple a thin coat of Pink Slip on the 1/4 tip of the nail.
– Apply one coat of Make A Comet-ment on entire nail.
– Apply clear top coat (I used SH Hard as Wraps).

White chocolate champorado

One of my favorite things for breakfast growing up was a filipino dish called champorado which is basically chocolate sweet rice. When I first moved out of my parents’ home, it was all I ever wanted for breakfast but everytime I tried to make it up, it just didn’t taste right. It never compared to mom’s. Why try to duplicate a recipe when you can re-create? And why not make it white… white chocolate, that is.

White chocolate champorado
1 cup sweet rice
5 cups water
1 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
1/8 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp cinnamon

– Rinse sweet rice.
– Place sweet rice and water in a pot over medium high heat. Be sure to constantly stir so rice doesn’t stick to the bottom. Bring to a boil, then lower heat to medium-low. Allow to simmer until rice is soft.
– Stir in white chocolate chips, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
– Continue to cook until chocolate is melted.

You can add sugar if you’d like or more chocolate chips. I usually don’t add any though. I find the chocolate adds just enough sweetness while not being overwhelming. This dish will thicken the longer it sits. I like it best when it’s first cooked.

Weekend wrist candy

Baby K and I had a very low key weekend due to the weather. Whoever said it never rains in Southern California lied! So with rainy wet weather comes extra layers of clothes and boots, but I still managed a simple short stack on my wrist. I love, love, love DIY bracelets and all of these were super easy to make. Honestly WTF has great tutorials that are easy to follow for all of these.
